Tender Tots Child Care & Learning Center Close Ave/ Soundview- MEET OUR DIRECTOR

My name is Esmeralda Mata and I am the Educational Director at Tender Tots Child Care Center in our beautiful location at 1090 Close Avenue, Bronx, NY.  It has always been my passion to work with children.  I have dedicated my entire professional career in working with children and families.  Being Latina, it is extremely important to me to give back to my community.

I was born in the Bronx in Lincoln Hospital and grew up in Washington Heights.  I am Dominican-American.  I have taught twenty years with the Department of Education in the Bronx and in Harlem.  I also taught two years in Albany.  I have taught grades kindergarten, third, fourth and fifth.  I have a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Special Education.  I am bilingual and am fluent in Spanish.

The most important aspect of my position is working with parents and teachers in making children feel at home in our classrooms and helping all children come together into a respectful learning community.  One made up of individuals with his or her own learning style, interests, personal history, hopes and dreams.

My goal as a director is to help each of our students reach his or her fullest potential and to instill in them a love for learning.  I will work my hardest, along with my staff, to help students achieve their academic goals.  In forming a partnership between homes and our classrooms, I am sure that we will be able to reach each child’s academic, emotional and social goals.

I look forward to getting to know parents and children and anticipate an environment with lots of learning and fun!  I may be reached at emata@tendertotsny.com or (718) 305-5144.
