This month in the Zebra room, the Zebras are learning about winter! We began the month by learning about snow and snowmen. This week we focused on winter clothing. The Zebras are learning that winter clothing such as hats, scarves, mittens, and sweaters help to keep us warm when it’s cold outside. We looked at different pictures of each clothing item and also learned how to put them on. Then the Zebras sat down on the carpet for story time to listen to the story, “Three Little Kittens”, by Paul Galdone. In the story, the kittens lost their mittens but found them again. The Zebras enjoyed making the “meow” sound that the kittens made when they cried to their mother cat. Next they each decorated their own mittens out of construction paper. We also used tissue paper, crayons, glue, feathers, pom-pom balls and foam letters to make our mittens unique and colorful.
While the Zebras engaged in their art activity they were using their fine motor skills as they placed each craft item onto their mittens and used the crayons to color. During story time they were also using their pre-language skills as they imitated the cries of the cats’ “meow”. The Zebras were having fun and learning at the same time! Take a look at the Zebras creating their cool mittens.
